Original Antique Birdsell Wagon South Bend Indiana Farm Dealer Trade Wooden Sign. This was a dealer sign that was used at a store in South Bend, Indiana operated by Dan Davis & Ages Dighton. Hand painted sign is still in excellent condition. Paint is flaking off, mostly along bottom edge. There is also a bow in wood running full length of sign on the short edge. There are 2 mounting holes. 1 hole top of “R” in Birdsell and other hole is above “I” in Davis. Measures 6″ x 70″. This sign along with 2 others I have listed “South Bend Malleable Range” & “Stewart Ball Bearing Horse Clippers Chicago, Illinois” came from the same private collection. The gentleman that owned these 3 very rare pieces was a life long collector, was on historical society in South Bend, Indiana and retired museum curator in Chicago. This would make a great addition to your farm, wagon or turn of the century advertising collection. I can promise you, you will not come across another authentic Birdsell sign anytime soon and definitely not in as good of condition as this. So this is a true vintage hand rolled bus sign from the late 1940’s. It is not perfect but in good condition for its age there is one section with a year. Also I had to open it up to rewind it. It progresses forward find but I had rewind it manually maybe an easy change? Please see all photos could use a good deep clean etc. And could use a new piece of glass in front of the rollers if you like. The John Deere plant came to Dubuque in 1945 and this is a hand roller style not electric so It would date the sign to the late 1940’s to early 1950’s. This sign would have been mounted in an early bus and the driver would hand roll the sign to the next destination. It could be Fremont Avenue or The John Deere Plant! This sign measures about 29″ long by about 9″ tall and about 5 and 1/2 at widest point on the mounting base. This is a great piece of history and would look good hanging up anywhere and you can change what is displayed on the sign depending on your tastes! Antique Set 2 JOHN DEERE CENTENNIAL 1837 1937 Commemorative Dealer Sign Plaque

This listing is for a set of two John Deere Centennial Dealer Commemorative 100th Anniversary signs or plaques. I’m not an expert in this field so let me tell you what I know, and I would welcome any additional information viewers might like to offer. I corresponded with a man who worked for the John Deere company for 36 years and it was his understanding that the original signs issued to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of John Deere were made of cast copper and later reproductions were done using cast aluminum. Each of the cast aluminum version reproductions weighed in at approximately 1 pound and 8 ounces. I believe the signs I have are made of cast copper or maybe a combination of materials because each of them weighs two pounds and eleven ounces which is significantly heavier than the aluminum. As you can see in the photos, the relief detail and clarity are also consistent with the original dealer issues. The other examples of the two signs I’ve seen show a bar system mounted across the back of the signs with a chain attached for hanging the sign. The backs of the signs I have show marked depressions where holes could be drilled to attach the bar, but they have not been drilled. I think this makes the set I have even more unusual and thus rare. Approximate diameter of each sign is 7 3/4-inches and the thickness of each is 1/4-inch. Please use the photos as your guide. Once again, this is to the best of my ability, the information I’ve been able to find and I welcome viewers input. This set would certainly make a great gift choice or an impressive addition for a collector. I can not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as “gifts” because US and International government regulations prohibit such actions.
